What is E-Filing VS Netfile?
NETFILE is the CRA's online filing system for individuals to file their own taxes online. If you are eligible, you are allowed to use an approved tax software. Netfile is not eligible for non-residents, there are other restrictions that can be found on CRA’s website.
EFILE is the CRA's electronic filing system that professional tax preparers use to file their clients' returns online. In order to do this, you must register to get an E-file Number and that requires registration renewal every year. There are two authorization forms that the client needs to sign in order to do this:
- Authorizing a Representative (previously T1013) - this form allows you to work on the client's information from CRA.
- T183 Form - This form declares that all the information reported is correct and they are authorizing you to file their return electronically.
Both forms need to be signed by the client in order to continue with filing their tax return.
What is the Difference between E-filing and Netfile?
The differences between the two is Netfiling can be used by individuals using a certified tax software approved by the CRA and E-filing is used by a certified Tax Professional. The software for E-filing is automated and the data can be submitted within the software.
